Collections staff have varied research interests and maintain an active acquisition policy. Further details of their work are summarised below, and a list of selected publications is available to download.

Professor Derek Siveter Senior Research Fellow
- Research interests: the exceptionally preserved faunas of the Herefordshire (Silurian; UK) and the Chengjiang (Cambrian; Yunnan Province, China) Konservat-Lagerstätten. Fossil arthropods; specific projects include Devonian trilobites from Mongolia, Ordovician aglaspidids from China, trilobites of the re-defined Llandeilian Stage from the Anglo-Welsh Basin.
- Curatorial interests: in particular, Palaeozoic in vertebrate collections; macrophotographic and preparation techniques; conservation of geological sites of scientific importance.
Mr Paul Jeffery Assistant curator
- Responsible for Mesozoic and Caenozoic collections
- Research interests: Palaeogene Mollusca, especially marine faunas of north-west Europe; gastropod systematics; Palaeogene stratigraphy of the United Kingdom; the gastropod shell as an ecological resource. Current projects include Bivalves in Amber: a case of mistaken mycology; the ichnofossil Helicotaphrichnus in the Anglo-Parisian Palaeogene; and the description of a new genus of Eocene noetiid bivalve.
- Curatorial interests: Mesozoic and Caenozoic fossils. Public inquiries. Current projects include re-integration of collections held at Museum outstations; the development of a fossil enquiries webpage.
Miss Eliza Howlett Collections Manager
- Responsible for general collections management.
- Curatorial interests: geological databases; type, figured and cited specimens; image library; specimen identification enquiries; archives of contemporary scientists; early collectors (Robert Plot, Edward Lhwyd, William Buckland). Current projects include local geology displays; the cataloguing of the Michael House archive.
Ms Juliet Hay Collections Staff
- Collections support responsibilities
- Curatorial interests: conservation and replication (moulding, casting) of palaeontological material. Maintenance of conservation records. Construction of geological displays, including mounting techniques, together with their monitoring and maintenance. Supporting collections fieldwork activites. Current projects include local geology displays; creating a representational set of moulds for teaching purposes, and moulding and casting for research work.
Mr André Ashington Stewardship Technician
- Collections support responsibilities
- Curatorial interests: geological databases; archives of handwriting samples; archives of collections labels associated with noted collectors, donors and dealers; schools and family education and outreach; history of models, casts and illustrations housed in Geological Collections. Current projects include the registration of fossils into geological collection databases; the addition of handwriting and label samples to collections archives.
Mr H. Philip Powell Honorary Associate Curator
- Curatorial interests: in particular, Mesozoic fossils; the geology of Oxfordshire; building stones.
