Corsi 127, approx. 145 x 73 x 40 mm, © Oxford University Museum of Natural History

OUMNH Number: 127
Name and quarry location: 'Marmo bianco e nero d'Egitto', locality unknown
Geological description: Black fine-grained limestone with en echelon veins of white fibrous calcite, and with stylolites.
Comments: This stone has not been recognised as coming from Egypt and its source is not known. The fibrous nature of the calcite veining is a feature that is also seen in no. 129 from Portoferraio, Isle of Elba. It has also been suggested this stone is a variety of bigio morato from Chios, Greece.
