OUMNH Number: 135  
Name and quarry location: Portoro, from Portovenere, Liguria, Italy  
Geological description: Black fine-grained weakly metamorphosed limestone with thin white calcite-filled veins, and with stylolites, and a few sinuous wider veins of calcite coloured yellow by included goethite.  
Comments: Like nos. 133 and 134, this stone is portoro from Portovenere, not Milan. See no.133. Larger slabs of portoro show that the golden coloured brecciation runs in roughly parallel bands across the stone, intercollated with areas relatively monochrome black limestone. This can be seen in the illustration of the altar panels in the Chapel of the Holy Souls in Westminster Cathedral in Price (2007).
