view of stone 154

Corsi 154, approx. 145 x 73 x 40 mm, © Oxford University Museum of Natural History

OUMNH Number: 154
Name and quarry location: Bardiglio, from the Apuan Alps, Tuscany, Italy; very likely from Carrara, Massa e Carrara.
Geological description: Fine-grained calcite marble with stylolites still clearly evident. The white areas are coarser-grained calcite.
Comments: This is a true marble rather than a limestone, and would have come from the Apuan Alps, very likely Carrara; not from Lake Como.
