OUMNH Number: 179
Name and quarry location: Rosso di Malcesine, from Malcesine, Verona, Veneto, Italy
Geological description: Limestone. A bioturbated fossiliferous biomicrite with abundant planktonic forams and calcispheres. It has extensive development of orange-red stylolites.
Comments: The Verona/Vicenza area, Veneto, Italy is indicated as the provenance by the number painted on the reverse (see pdf of further information about Verona specimens). Malcesine, Prov. di Verona, Italy, may be correct, but Jervis (1889) records only a red compact limestone from Malcesine, saying the quarry is near the hamlet of Basi on the coast of Lake Garda.
References: Jervis (1889) 133
