OUMNH Number: 209
Name and quarry location: Broccatello di Camerino, from Camerino, Macerata, Marches, Italy
Geological description: Cretaceous-Eocene pelagic limestone, probably from the Scaglia Rossa Formation of the Apennines. A burrowed pink biomicrite with planktonic forams and calcispheres, cut by a sparry calcite and geopetal sediment-filled synsedimentary void, and by calcite-filled fractures.
Comments: Broccatello di Camerino is included in the list of ornamental stones for the area in Zuccagni-Orlandini's Corografica fisica of 1843. Corsi's sample shows that it closely resembles Cottanello (no.187). Rocks of the Scaglia Rossa Formation outcrop in the hills a few kilometres outside Camerino.
