view of stone 21

Corsi 21, approx. 145 x 73 x 40 mm, © Oxford University Museum of Natural History

OUMNH Number: 21
Name and quarry location: Marmo bianco di Malcesine, from Malcesine, Verona, Veneto, Italy
Geological description: Fine-grained limestone (micrite/microsparite) with burrows and scattered large bioclasts, including the aptychi of ammonites. Probably Cretaceous age.
Comments: The Verona/Vicenza area, Veneto, Italy is indicated as the provenance by the number painted on the reverse (see pdf of further information about Verona specimens). Corsi most probably refers to Malcesine, province of Verona, Italy, which is almost certainly correct. All Corsi's specimens said to be from 'Euganean Hills' appear to be from the Verona area.
