Corsi 216, approx. 145 x 73 x 40 mm, © Oxford University Museum of Natural History

OUMNH Number: 216
Name and quarry location: Broccatellone from Verzirhan, Bilecik,Turkey
Geological description: Limestone breccia-conglomerate with a ferruginous matrix. It has extensive post-depositional fracturing and calcite veining.
Comments: The pink corner of this specimen shows a typical broccatellone appearance. Although the pink/yellow colouring is similar to that of Spanish broccatello, this limestone lacks the abundant bivalve shells of the Spanish stone. It was quarried by the ancient Romans and re-used in the Renaissance and Baroque architecture of Rome.
