Corsi Collection of Decorative Stones

view of stone 310

Corsi 310, approx. 145 x 73 x 40 mm, © Oxford University Museum of Natural History

OUMNH Number: 310
Name and quarry location: 'Alabastro fiorito', locality unknown
Geological description: Compact very fine to fine-grained banded calcite travertine.
Comments: This stone would probably not today be called alabastro fiorito (see Corsi no.301). Although modern compact travertines ('onyx marbles'), particularly those from Algeria and Pakistan, can be intensely green in colour, this is the only sample in Corsi's collection that is noticeably green. This sample looks as though it may be from the same deposit as Corsi no.334.

search tips

Searches the database for all stone records containing the words you enter. To search for a text string, put it between quotation marks. To search for stone records that don't contain a word, put a minus sign in front of it.

For example, entering: granite "coarse-grained" -Egypt will find all the coarse-grained granites that do not come from Egypt.
