OUMNH Number: | 320 |
---|---|
Name and quarry location: | Alabastro a giaccione, perhaps alabastro di Montalcino from Montalcino, Siena, Tuscany, Italy |
Geological description: | Compact banded travertine composed of very coarsely crystalline calcite. Ferruginous inclusions run parallel to the banding. |
Comments: | This is not the ice-clear alabastro a giaccione of Circeo (see Corsi no.304) but it is largely colourless as its name suggests it should be. It strongly resembles, and may be the same stone as Corsi no.370 from Montalcino, Siena, Tuscany, Italy. |
