Geological description: | Compact travertine composed of bands of finely fibrous and fine-grained calcite. |
Comments: | Merrill (1893) gives two localities for compact banded travertines in Brescia, Pisogne for a yellow-brown oriental alabaster from stalactites in Triassic limestone, and Rezzato, on the outskirts of Brescia, for a dark brown oriental alabaster occurring in caverns in Liassic limestone. Jervis (1889) does not mention this stone from the province. This specimen has been badly broken and subsequently repaired. |
