OUMNH Number: 387
Name and quarry location: Alabastro de'Bagni di S. Filippo, from Bagni San Filippo, Siena, Tuscany, Italy
Geological description: Compact banded calcite travertine of very finely fibrous calcite.
Comments: Like no.388, this is almost certainly not a tartaro cut from encrustations on the walls of an aquaduct or other watercourse. Minissale (2004) gives a useful overview of the travertine deposits of Bagni San Filippo, south of Castiglione d'Orcia. This specimen is cut parallel to the banding.
