Comments: | This is typical griotte, named after the French for the morello cherry, and alluding to its nodular nature. Griotte has been quarried at a number of locations in the French Pyrenees, for example the quarry at Espiadet in the Campan valley which supplied stone for decorating the royal palaces of the 18th century. Griotte can vary from dark pink, through rich red to dark brown. |
