view of stone 476

Corsi 476, approx. 145 x 73 x 40 mm, © Oxford University Museum of Natural History

OUMNH Number: 476
Name and quarry location: Breccia di Prato, from Prato, Florence, Tuscany, Italy (unlikely)
Geological description: Poorly sorted polymict limestone breccia with many fossiliferous clasts. Clasts have green chloritic rims.
Comments: This stone strongly resembles the sample of the French marble Medous gris in the Cambridge University Collection, but does look like the same stone illustrated by Dubarry de Lassale (2000). Prato is well-known for its serpentinite verde di Prato, of which there are several examples in Corsi's collection.
References: Dubarry de Lassale (2000) 246-247. Compare: Percy Coll. no.60, University of Cambridge.
