Name and quarry location: | Mandolà di Sant'Ambrogio di Valpolicella, nembro rosato, from San Ambrogio di Valpolicella, Verona, Veneto, Italy |
Geological description: | Burrowed nodular biomicrite limestone crowded with skeletal grains, and with stylolite development around the nodules. Dark brown area is wax filler. |
Comments: | The painted number on the back of the specimen indicates a Verona/Vicenza provenance for this specimen (see Verona.pdf for more information). The Italian word mandolà means almond and alludes to the nodular structure. Today, this pink and yellow limestone is called nembro rosato, and it comes from a number of localities in the Verona/Vicenza area. |
