---|---|
Name and quarry location: | Marmorato di Osimo, from Osimo, Ancona, Marches, Italy |
Geological description: | Burrowed nodular fossiliferous micritic limestone with abundant 'filaments' of Buchia/Posidonia (bivalves). |
Comments: | Osimo, The Marches, Italy, is not confirmed but may be correct. Limestone was quarried in this area, for example at Monte Conero to the north east (Jervis, 1889). The stone could be confused with a Cretaceous limestone of very similar appearance called Vratza or Donaukalk, from the Vratza region of north east Bulgaria. |
