Name and quarry location: Calcare compatta di Pisa, from Pisa, Tuscany, Italy  
Geological description: Micritic limestone containing scattered grains of quartz. Dendritic growths of manganese/iron oxides emanate from fractures and form discrete spots, and are particularly well developed on the unsawn reverse of the sample. Brown areas are filler/polishing compound.  
Comments: The locality may be correct, argillaceous limestones of the Alberese Formation occur to the north of the province. Corsi's number is missing from this sample.
