Corsi 536, approx. 145 x 73 x 40 mm, © Oxford University Museum of Natural History

OUMNH Number: 536
Name and quarry location: Diaspro tenero di Sicilia, tigrato di Trapani, from Custonaci, Trapani, Sicily, Italy
Geological description: Micritic or microsparite limestone containing a mass of Teredo or similar wood-boring bivalves; no evidence of the wood itself remeins.
Comments: The distinctive colour palette of buff, olive green and scarlet gives confirmation that this is a sample of diaspro tenero di Sicilia (soft jasper of Sicily). We are informed that it most probably comes from Custanaci in the province of Trapani.
