OUMNH Number: 58
Name and quarry location: Marmo carnagione di Perugia, perhaps from Monte Malbe, near Corciano, Perugia, Umbria, Italy.
Geological description: Pelagic limestone from the Upper Cretaceous to Eocene Scaglia Rossa Formation. A bioturbated fossiliferous biomicrite crowded with planktonic forams, calcispheres, and other small bioclasts. It is crossed by slender healed fractures, and stylolites.
Comments: Corsi is probably correct with this locality. Jervis 1889 describes a flesh-coloured compact limestone ('marble') quarried near Monte Malbe, 3 km from the city of Perugia. This is locality provided some of the pink and red stone used for the decoration of the Cathedral of Santa Maria Fiore in Florence (Malesani, 2003).
