Corsi 659, approx. 145 x 73 x 40 mm, © Oxford University Museum of Natural History

OUMNH Number: 659
Name and quarry location: Pietra dell'Etna, from Mt. Etna, Catania, Sicily, Italy
Geological description: Volcanic breccia with sub-angular clasts of altered fine-grained basic rock and some of vesicular rock. Vesicles have carbonate infills, and some are surrounded by reaction rims which perhaps indicates magma mixing. The streaky texture suggests some plastic deformation.
