OUMNH Number: 68
Name and quarry location: Marmo rosso di Taormina’; Taormina in Sicily is very doubtful. Possibly from the Apennines, Italy.
Geological description: Pink pelagic limestone, most probably from the Scaglia Rossa Formation (Cretaceous-Tertiary). A bioturbated fossiliferous biomicrite crowded with planktonic forams and calcispheres.
Comments: This is not from Taormina. It is possibly the red/pink variety of litomarga from the Apennines.
