Schools and teachers: booking a visit

All teaching sessions are available free to schools, but need to be booked well in advance as they are very popular. You are also welcome to guide your own group around the Museum, but please remember to book in advance.

Students must be adequately supervised during their visit: we require a ratio of at least one adult to ten children. If you also wish to visit the Pitt Rivers Museum, you must book separately. (Tel. 01865 270927).
Download a risk assessment to help plan your visit.

Opening times:
Pre-booked school parties may visit from 10am. The Museum is open to the public every day from 10am to 5pm. Admission and all hands-on sessions are free.

Disabled access:
The Museum has separate wheelchair access for the ground floor and a lift to the upper gallery. There is disabled parking available. Please speak to the education officers for details.

Parking and coaches:
The Museum is unable to provide parking facilities for visiting school groups. Due to weight restrictions, coaches must not turn into the Museum forecourt. Coaches are usually able to drop-off in Museum Road or St Giles.

Toilets and cloakroom:
The Museum has toilets that are for use by the general public and school groups. Please check if you wish to use our cloakroom facilities for schools. The cloakroom is not a secure area so valuables should not be left there.

Lunch:
There are no cafeteria or lunch facilities at the Museum. Lunch can be eaten on the Museum lawn and in the nearby University Parks in fine weather. No eating or drinking is allowed in the Museum.

Shop:
There is a Museum shop which is open from 10am. There is a range of goods available for under £2.50. The shop is small so please visit in groups of 10.
