THE GOLDEN BALL
I have a lingering interest in Space – the result of Wednesday afternoon lessons in primary school (one of the first, and by far most ambitious, things I can remember wanting to be was the first doctor on Mars!) That, combined with a magpie eye, means that the golden ball representing the Sun always catches my attention from across the gallery. I must admit that it took me a while to notice the, by comparison, rather tiny (and dull-coloured) balls representing the Earth and Moon, but I think that is rather the point! The model does seem slightly out of place tucked amongst the pillars and display cases, but I like the fact that it has been measured to fit the space of the Museum and so really puts the scale of things in to perspective.
