Touchable elements were first introduced into our displays in 2002. It has been exciting to see the difference these have made to our visitors’ experience. Research suggests that for many people who learn particularly well through kinaesthetic experiences, the opportunity to physically interact with an object significantly aids learning and creates memorable experiences. Allowing our visitors to have direct access to a few selected specimens is, in effect, allowing them to share the same experience that those of us fortunate enough to work in this special museum have the privilege to encounter on a regular basis.
