Welcome

The Oxford University Museum of Natural History houses the University's scientific collections of zoological, entomological and geological specimens. The Museum itself is a Grade 1 listed building, renowned for its spectacular neo-Gothic architecture. Among its most famous features are the Oxfordshire dinosaurs, the dodo, and the swifts in the tower.

New exhibit

Cast of skull and hand

The Museum has recently acquired the cast of the skull and hand of Australopithecus sediba. Discovered in South Africa in 2008 this species seems to straddle the Australopithecines and Homo. It is 1.98 million years old. Find out more

Museums win Clore Award

The Oxford University Museum of Natural History and Pitt Rivers Museum have jointly won the inaugural Clore Award for Museum Learning. They received the accolade for Making Museums, in which school children design and make their own museums, from acquisition to exhibition, on the theme of celebrating their identities.
