The golden toad
This is a photograph of a male golden toad. It is very different from the female golden toad. It is a bright orange colour and is generally smaller than the female.
Unlike many toads and frogs, the golden toad did not seem to have a range of different calls. Because they were so brightly coloured, scientists thought that golden toads used vision rather than sound to recognise other golden toads.
