The Carboniferous

Fossil Did you know what this fossil was?

These are fossil crinoids or sea lilies - they are broken up a bit so you can't see them perfectly. These fossils were found in Richmond in Yorkshire in limestone rocks that formed towards the beginning of the Carboniferous period, between 350 and 320 million years ago.

Sea lilies are echinoderms - they are related to starfish and sea urchins.
