Your insect is probably a fly of some kind

A house fly and a mosquito

Order: Diptera
Body length: 0.5 - 60mm
Species: World - 120 000, UK - 5950

Flies are everywhere. One pair of flies can produce more than one million offspring in as little as six weeks. Flies have more impact on humans than any other insect group:

Negatives: Many flies carry germs and spread diseases like malaria, yellow fever, sleeping sickness, and dysentery.

Positives: Flies act as pollinators, recycle dead animal and plant material, and are a source of food to many other animals.
