view of stone 141

Corsi 141, approx. 145 x 73 x 40 mm, © Oxford University Museum of Natural History

OUMNH Number: 141
Name and quarry location: Bigio antico, bigio morato, locality unknown
Geological description: Grey-brown bioturbated limestone with a few mollusc fragments. Note white coarse-grained spar-filled cavities and fractures, and abundant stylolites. The surface is waxed and polished.
Comments: Nothing is known about where this stone is from. Superficially it looks like the finely veined formed of portoro ('portoro macchie fine') but the yellow in the stylolites is filler/polishing compound, not a feature of the stone.
