Name and quarry location: Palombino di Mazzurega, from Mazzurega, near Fumane, Verona, Veneto, Italy  
Geological description: Burrowed micritic limestone with calcite-filled fractures, perhaps Lower Cretaceous 'Biancone'.  
Comments: The Verona/Vicenza area, Veneto, Italy is indicated as the provenance by the painted number on the reverse (see pdf of further information about Verona specimens). Jervis (1889) describes a compact limestone called 'scaglia' by the artists, saying 'The quarry... is pressed against Monte Solano, close to the village of Mazzurega, a short distance from the adjacent municipality of Sant'Ambrogio Valpolicella. Cretaceous.' For Sant'Ambrogio di Valpolicella, Jervis records a dirty white compact limestone known as biancone, and also an off-white marble known as scaglia, this latter coming from the village of San Giorgio Mazzurega. Additional details are given including examples of use.
