No reference has been found to this stone from Bagnaia, on Elba. It has been noted that it bears more than a passing resemblance to 'ribbon jasper' which at this time was being obtained from various locations in the southern Ural Mountains of Russia (Price, 2007), and was used, according to Giusti, in the pietre dure workshops of Florence.
