| Comments: | This stone, with its characteristic rounded calcareous algae and orange-brown stylolites, is the stone known as Botticino, named after the area in which it is quarried. It was used locally by the ancient Romans at least as early as the first century BC, and is still quarried to this day. Various varieties are sold; this sample most closely resembles Botticino fiorito. |
