Corsi 245, approx. 145 x 73 x 40 mm, © Oxford University Museum of Natural History

OUMNH Number: 245
Name and quarry location: Astracane di Verona, lumachella di Verona, from Verona, Veneto, Italy
Geological description: Fossiliferous limestone. The matrix is microspar/micrite; crowded with whole and fragmentary brachiopod (probably terebratulid) and bivalve debris, which is commonly recrystallised or replaced by sparry calcite.
Comments: The Monte Rossa to which Corsi refers, is in the Euganean Hills, but the rocks there are volcanic. This specimen is a typical lumachella di Verona, the locality also indicated by the painted number on the back of the specimen (see Verona.pdf for more information). It is one of a number of specimens that reveal Corsi’s confusion about localities in the Veneto region.
