Corsi sees the round ossicles of 'encrinites' (crinoids) in this sample, hence its inclusion among the lumachellas. Jervis (1889) describes the travertine from Montecatini di Val di Nievole, Prov. di Lucca as compact, white and in places grey, coloured yellow with iron oxide... '
