Corsi 287, approx. 145 x 73 x 40 mm, © Oxford University Museum of Natural History

OUMNH Number: 287
Name and quarry location: Derbyshire fossil marble, from Derbyshire, England
Geological description: Carboniferous Limestone; Lower Carboniferous burrowed fossiliferous micrite crowded with skeletal debris: bryozoans, crinoids, benthic forminifera etc.
Comments: The Carboniferous Limestone outcrops in various parts of Britain including the Derbyshire Peak District. Corsi’s confusion as to the provenance of this sample may be because he acquired it from the Duke of Devonshire, whose estates were largely in Derbyshire.
