| OUMNH Number: |
452
|
| Name and quarry location: |
Breccia del Giannicolo, from Rome, Lazio, Italy
|
| Geological description: |
Limestone breccio-conglomerate, very poorly sorted; the matrix is clear crystalline calcite in places, elsewhere full of microfauna-rich grains.
|
| Comments: |
The name pertains to the Janiculum Hill in Rome, and in Corsi's table-top of modern marbles in the Natural History Museum, London, Corsi calls this stone 'breccia di Roma'. Despite superficial appearances, it is not particularly like the other two breccias of this name in this collection, nos. 453 and 454.
