| Name and quarry location: |
'Argilla di Terni', from Terni, Umbria, Italy; or may be Tivoli, Roma, Lazio, Italy
|
| Geological description: |
Burrowed micrite/microsparite limestone with abundant calcispheres and conspicuous dissolution fabrics (dark seams).
|
| Comments: |
Perhaps from Terni, Umbria, Italy, where Jervis (1889) says both yellowish-white limestone and travertine have been quarried . However the specimen has 'M.Ven.' [marmo venato] written in ink on the reverse. The other two specimens marked this way are nos. 504 and 505 from Tivoli, Lazio, Italy. It may be coincidence or a cause of the confusion that both Tivoli and Terni are better known for their travertine deposits.
