| Geological description: | Micritic limestone or calcareous marl from the Cretaceous Alberese Formation. Calcite-filled microfractures control iron-staining. It is cut by a large calcite-filled vein. |
| Comments: | A good example of 'pietra paesina', most probably from Valdarno, south-east of Florence. Loose boulders of this stone have been widely used for decorative purposes for many centuries. This is one of the specimens that had been lost and was rediscovered at the beginning of the 20th century. It no longer has Corsi 's number and was correlated with Corsi's catalogue entry 131.4 by Mary Porter and Professor Henry Miers. |
