OUMNH Number: 67
Name and quarry location: Marmo rosso di Prodo, from Prodo, or more probably Colonnetta di Prodo, Terni, Umbria, Italy
Geological description: Limestone. A fossiliferous biomicrite crowded with planktonic forams and calcispheres. Disrupted banding marks a layer that has transported and re-sedimented, probably the result of slumping. Fractures are calcite-filled.
Comments: This dark pink to red limestone is most probably the marmo di Prodo quarried at Colonnetta di Prodo, a few kilometres south west of Prodo, and used in the marble decoration of the Duomo of Orvieto.
