| Comments: |
Not from Dirillo River or any other locality in Sicily. This is 'calcedonio di Volterra' from Monterufoli, Pomarance, Province of Pisa, Italy; cf no. 740. The subtle variation in colour tone made this stone particularly suitable for portraying petals, shells etc, in Florentine pietre dure work.
