OUMNH Number: 842
Name and quarry location: Granito antico, locality unknown; possibly a variety of granito nero from between Aswan and Shellal District, Nile Valley, Egypt
Geological description: Biotite-bearing granodiorite with a band crossing the specimen of more granitic composition with pink potash feldspars.
Comments: This stone may be a very atypical example of Harrell's variety 'b' of the Aswan granites and granodiorites described on his website (Harrell, pers.comm.). The stone is also known as diorite Egiziano and is found in a number of localities between Aswan and the Shellal district.
