Corsi 128, approx. 145 x 73 x 40 mm, © Oxford University Museum of Natural History

OUMNH Number: 128
Name and quarry location: Grand antique, bianco e nero antico, from Lez valley, Aubert, near St Girons, Hautes-Pyrénées, France
Geological description: Breccia of grey limestone clasts in a compact white granular calcite matrix.
Comments: It is agreed by all who have examined this stone, that it is a rather grey variety of grand antique. The finest grand antique is clear black and white, but inferior forms can be rather greyer (as here) or browner, as for example no. 418.
