Name and quarry location: | 'Marmo porino', perhaps from the Island of Páros, Cyclades, South Aegean, Greece |
Geological description: | Medium-grained calcite marble. |
Comments: | The mean grain size suggets this specimen may be Parian marble from the Island of Páros, Cyclades, Greece. It is not 'poros', 'poros stone' or 'poros limestone', terms applied to pale-coloured Greek limestones generally used for construction work( see notes with Corsi's Catalogo ragionato). The name 'Greco duro' is now used for the dolomitic marble of the Greek island of Thasos. |
