view of stone 201

Corsi 201, approx. 145 x 73 x 40 mm, © Oxford University Museum of Natural History

OUMNH Number: 201
Name and quarry location: Marmo di Brentónico, from Brentónico, Trentino, Trentino-Alto Adige, Italy
Geological description: Fractured, stylolitised, burrowed nodular limestone. It is fine-grained, and variably bioclast-rich/bioclast-poor, with scattered ammonoids. Patches are rich in dolomite rhombs.
Comments: The painted number on the back of the specimen indicates a Verona/Vicenza provenance for this violet, pink and yellow limestone (see Verona.pdf for more information). Brentónico is most probably correct.
