OUMNH Number: 234
Name and quarry location: Lumachella di Menaggio, from Menaggio, Como, Lombardy, Italy, or more likely a lumachella from Verona or Vicenza, Veneto, Italy.
Geological description: Fossiliferous pel-sparite limestone. It has abundant peloids and intraclasts of micritic limestone in a sparry matrix. Some layers are rich in bivalves, others are edgewise breccia together with fragments of laminated 'algal' cyanobacterial micrite.
Comments: Perhaps from Menaggio, on the west bank of Lake Como, Lombardy, Italy, but resembles astracane di Verona and is more likely to be from the Verona/Vicenza area, Veneto, Italy, the provenance indicated by the painted number on the back of the specimen (see Verona.pdf for more information).
