Corsi 279, approx. 145 x 73 x 40 mm, © Oxford University Museum of Natural History

OUMNH Number: 279
Name and quarry location: Lumachella di Valpolicella, perhaps giallo reale, from Valpolicella, Verona, Veneto, Italy
Geological description: Biosparite limestone with abundant large benthic forams, algal nodules and grains, and molluscan debris.
Comments: Most probably a Jurassic limestone from the Verona area, Veneto, Italy, and perhaps the stone now traded as giallo reale. 'Volpicella' seems to be a contraction of Valpolicella sometimes used in the past.
