Corsi 525, approx. 145 x 73 x 40 mm, © Oxford University Museum of Natural History

OUMNH Number: 525
Name and quarry location: Breccia di Modena, from Modena, Emilia-Romagna, Italy
Geological description: Micrite/microsparite limestone with abundant bioclasts, extensively fractured and stylolitised. Dendritic iron and manganese oxides are developed along stylolites.
Comments: 'Modena Variformo' is written in pencil on Corsi's label, but this provenance in Emilia-Romagna, Italy, is not confirmed; there are a number of argillaceous limestones from the Modena area recorded in Jervis (1889). In the De Santis Collection in Rome a stone which may be the same is called paesina erborizzata, but no provenance is given.
References: Jervis (1889) 192-196
