OUMNH Number: | 683 |
---|---|
Name and quarry location: | 'Traccagnina delle Alpi', perhaps from the province of Verona, Italy |
Geological description: | Breccia-conglomerate of sub-angular to rounded limestone, dolostone and occasional quartz clasts in a ferruginous sparite matrix. Clasts show extensive fracturing. |
Comments: | This stone is calcareous and should have been classed with Corsi's 'marmi'. It resembles no. 402, breccia Capitolina. However, this specimen bears a painted number on the reverse. Other samples marked in this way have a provenance in the Verona/Vicenza region (see Verona pdf for more information). It is consequently possible that this sample is also from Verona. |
