Corsi 754, approx. 145 x 73 x 40 mm, © Oxford University Museum of Natural History

OUMNH Number: 754
Name and quarry location: Calcedonio di Volterra, Diaspro di Monterufoli, from Monterufoli, near Pomarance, Pisa, Tuscany, Italy
Geological description: Off-white chert clasts in a partially silicified, partly calcite or more probably dolomite matrix.
Comments: Calcedonio di Volterra from Monterufoli, Pomerance, near Volterra. This stone is not technically a jasper, as it lacks the ferruginous colouration which incidentally is shown by other specimens in Corsi's collection from this locality such as 759. It is one of the stones employed by the pietre dure workshops of Florence.
