Name and quarry location: Granito violetto, marmor Troadense, from Çigri Dâg, Ezine, Canakkale, Marmara; Turkey  
Geological description: Medium-grained quartz monzonite with large violet-grey megacrysts of potash feldspar in a groundmass of quartz, plagioclase, biotite and hornblende.  
Comments: This is believed to be a dark veriety of granito violetto, also known as granito Troadense or marmo Troadense. It was exported to Rome between the second and sixth centuries AD.
